Proposals to this program will argue for addressing a compelling challenge, present a vision for solutions to that challenge, and include a translational development and deployment/outreach plan. In the spirit of the collaborative effort, teams will involve investigators from both the Whiting School and APL. SURPASS will fund approximately $3.75 million to proposed projects with the potential to obtain up to $100 million from external funding.
This is an unprecedented opportunity, and we believe that it will push our institution toward new discoveries and deeper relationships between the Whiting School and APL.
This is more than just a grant:
It’s an alliance, a partnership and a chance to surpass societal challenges for the world together.
We know this type of innovation will require significant internal investment, teaming, and outreach to be successful. So in addition to seedling funding, we’ll be providing teams with assistance in ideation and business development. We’ve also worked to streamline the collaboration process between our two Hopkins divisions—allowing ideas to be developed and realized with minimal overhead and on shortened timelines.
